Walking Lightly: in lieu at Tai Tam Tuk Coastal Clean-Up
A Fragile Habitat
Last weekend, in lieu joined a meaningful coastal clean-up at Tai Tam Tuk, one of Hong Kong Island’s few remaining mangrove habitats. Here, the roots and tides intertwine to sustain countless forms of life, yet this fragile ecosystem remains vulnerable to human impact—even the smallest pieces of litter can disturb water quality and biodiversity.
Collecting the Past, Caring for the Future
Together with @The Harbour School and friends from the airline community, we spent several hours collecting over 150 kilograms of waste—items that had lingered for years, silently shaping the environment around them. The effort reminded us that the distance we walk in nature is not what defines our relationship with it; it is the conscious actions we take, even small ones, that protect and preserve the land for those who follow.
Why Mangroves Matter
Mangroves do more than beautify the coastline—they stabilize shores, support biodiversity, and protect marine ecosystems. By participating in clean-ups and fostering mindful habits, we not only address today’s environmental challenges but also cultivate practices that make sustainable behavior intuitive for tomorrow.
Everyday Choices, Lasting Impact
At in lieu, we believe that everyday choices—from responsible packaging to reducing plastic use—can make a tangible impact. This event was a reminder that mindful care, repeated consistently, forms the foundation for a healthier environment and a more connected community.
Walking along Tai Tam Tuk, collecting the waste that should never have been there, we were reminded that the simplest acts of stewardship—like picking up a piece of litter—can become lessons for the next generation. Every step we take with awareness is a step toward a lighter footprint.
