As part of the programme, Joanne Zhou, founder of in lieu, joined as a panelist, sharing her perspective on building a premium sustainable water brand in Hong Kong. Her speech explored how in lieu sits at the intersection of wellness, sustainability, and cultural positioning. And in lieu exists beyond water. It is a response to a broader cultural moment—where health, sustainability, and design are no longer separate considerations, but part of a more intentional way of living. From aluminum packaging choices to everyday consumption rituals, each detail is designed to encourage more conscious behaviour without compromising on quality or experience.

Reflecting on the exchange of ideas at Genesis Festival, Joanne shared: “Hearing their stories also made me reflect more deeply on my own journey, and the choices that shaped how in lieu came to life. I also appreciated the chance to share a bit more behind the scenes of building in lieu — from looking at a very traditional category through a different lens, to rethinking how value can be created through brand, sustainability, and a consumer-first perspective.”

Her contribution resonated with the wider themes of Genesis Festival Hong Kong 2026, where conversations centred on next-generation entrepreneurship, legacy thinking, and conscious brand building in Asia. More than a presentation, it was part of an ongoing dialogue about what it means to build something that is both commercially viable and culturally meaningful. For in lieu, being part of this conversation reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainable hydration, mindful living, and contributing to a more considered future.
